Rattan settee from Dirk van Sliedregt 1956

Here a rare settee that was designed by Dirk van Sliedregt for gebr. Jonkers in 1956. This rattan settee survived well. It has a black steel frame and beautiful curved detailed lines. Dirk van Sliedrecht was a Dutch furniture designer, interior architect and teacher. Good quality and craftsmanship where important for him and his work. Van Sliedrecht was inspired by classic, structural architecture and design, like Corbusier and modernistic buildings. Functionality was the keyword of his designs, not only in the furniture itself but also in the production. In the early 50s. Van Sliedrecht was asked by Gebroeders Jonkers to redraw some of their chairs. He stayed till 1979 and took the rotan industry to another level. This sofa is a perfect example of honest design, with a clear distinction between the seat and frame, and the successful combination of machine and handicraft.
