Aluminum coffee table designed by Belgian painter and designer Fernand Dresse. As a painter Dresse his work included portraits, figures, landscapes and flowers. The organic elements from his paintings were an inspiration for the furniture he designed later in his life, starting from the early 70s. His designs often play with the borders between furniture design and art. This coffee table is fully made out of aluminum with brass details. The table top is a mosaic small pieces that create a smooth rounded pattern. Due its height and shape, this table has a floating effect. A reflection of daylight can create a different highlights and dimensions of the pattern. These type of metal tables where labeled by production with a small piece of hard plastic. ( An example of this label can be found in my archive under the name Dresse ) Due the years this label has been fell of. Even so there is no doubt this table is a design of Fernand dresse. The patina gained trough the years, the metal structure and details of this table referring all to the designer. The table stands in an all original condition , no works or restorations have been done. As this is an aluminum table, traces of use can be noticed after 40 years.
