Olivier Strebelle Ceramic Artwork

Olivier Strebelle was a Belgian sculptor whos work can be found often in the Belgian street scene, but as well in Europe, the United States and Asia. At the age of 15 Strebelle starts his studies at the Higher Institute for Architecture and Decorative Arts La Cambre in Brussels, where he follows ceramic and sculpture art. In 1949, together with Alechinsky, Reinhoud, Dotremont and Olyff, he founded the Ateliers du Marais in Brussels (the center of the Cobra movement). This ceramic wall sculpture dates from the 50s and show a nice contrast between the use of clay and glazing. The panel is fully made of ceramic. The drawing has been carved in the clay, the glaze has been painted on the sculpture and so creates a very refined feel. Signed Strebelle I the top left corner.
