Set of four bentwood B9 armchairs by Thonet. The firm of Thonet has revolutionized furniture design over the last two centuries by pioneering everything from basic cafe chairs to the Bauhaus. They were particularly known for their manufacture of bentwood furniture, for which they had developed the first industrial-scale production processes. In 1856 the brothers Thonet expanded with their furniture factory into six Central European production sites. The B9 chair was designed around 1900. This set of four is an early production by ZPM Radomsko in Poland, a former Thonet factory which was nationalized after world war II. All chairs are in a very good condition. The seats have no damages and the bentwood has a very nice patina. The chair has been the favorite of Le Corbusier. He used it in many of buildings he designed for himself or for clients. It can be for seen in the Pavilion De l´esprit nouveau in Paris, in Villa De la Rocca and in house nr. 13 and nr. 14/15 in the Weibenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart. Quote: This elegant bentwood classic is a masterpiece in its construction and production... this chair has nobility - Le Corbusier
