The Wassily Chair is a piece of significant importance in mid century design. The chair, also known as the Model B3 chair, was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925-1926 while he was active at the Bauhaus school, Germany. Breuer was impressed by his bicycle’s strength and lightness, the result of its being made of tubular steel. This seemingly indestructible material was the inspiration for the Wassily chair. This material choice made the chair revolutionary. The original thick canvas has a stunning yet interesting patina that fits the design really well. The wassily chair was originally produced by Thonet, after which the license was transferred to Gavina, Italy who produced the chairs until 1968. Today the chair is still produced by Knoll. This model is dating from the Gavina production period and so dates from the sixties. The chairs have a steel tube frame and a thick canvas upholstery. They stand in a good condition and have gained a beautiful patina through the years.
