Jos De Mey studied Decorative Arts and Interior Architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Thanks to his teacher Gaston Eysselinck he came into contact with the furniture company Van den Berghe-Pauvers. During this period, De Mey also designed furniture for Luxus, a company based in Kortrijk. De Mey worked for both companies as an independent designer during the 50s. Even you can find his work for Van den Berghe-Pauvers easily, De Mey’s designs for Luxus are harder to find. This set of eight chairs was designed by Luxus. The chairs have a concave shaped spacious seat and a comfortable backrest that is nicely detailed with a wooden pattern. This hard to find set stands has a very nice patina gained through the years. 2 of the chairs have a minor scratch on the seat. We kept the upholstery as its fully original, the foam is still in a good condition. These chairs don’t often pop up as a larger set, you can find them most of the time individually or in a set of four. A chair exceptional in design, woodwork and comfort.
