Here a beautiful dining set designed by Emiel Veranneman. His work is in my opinion always a treasure to find. Veranneman’s work is well documented and for this specific dining set it is a must read for people who are interested in Victor Vasarely and the friendship he had with Emiel Veranneman. They both had admiration for each other's work with a like minded vision on interior and design. Victor Vasarely had a dining table and chairs like this at his home and wrote a friendly letter to his colleague;
“ Dear Friend,
Your chairs: I love them above all, a real pleasure to look at them, the table also. We would like a series in small format, the dimensions of which you will find below. The two large pieces of furniture give me a lot of satisfaction. I admired your pretty photos (I am sending them back to you), especially the floor lamp. If we call on a decorator of your class, you would have to do everything, again... from year to year we would have to change elements. You understand me very well.
Let me know when you next come to France, but come by car. We will then look into the question of marquetry together. Good morning to your dear wife and cordially to you,
Victor “
The chairs and table described in the letter are the same as this particular set. Made in a dark finished wood, the chairs covered in a brown/red leather that had gained a nice patina through the years. The seats are made with coil springs. To find this set together is not that common, a set that has always stayed together. The large table fits eight chairs and has an impressive, sturdy look. I also added the pictures out of the book of Veranneman where you can view the interior of Victor Vasarely.
