Yrjö Kukkapuro is a renowned Finnish furniture designer and interior architect, celebrated for his innovative designs, including the iconic Karuselli lounge chair. Recognized as one of the most influential modernists in Finnish furniture design, Kukkapuro's work shows a perfect balance of aesthetics, functionality, and ergonomics. Designed in 1964, the Karuselli lounge chair exemplifies Kukkapuro's dedication to comfort and ergonomic design. The chair features a fiberglass shell finished in white lacquer, a swivel base and the original black leather upholstery. The Lounge Chair exemplifies the designers interest in achieving ultimate comfort through a union of function, ergonomics, and organic form. Upon its release, the Karuselli chair quickly gained international recognition. In 1966 Italian architect Gio Ponti selected the chair for the cover of Domus design magazine. British designer Sir Terence Conran also declared it his favorite chair.
This particular Karuselli lounge chair stands in a very good condition with it’s original patine, no tears are noticed in the leather.
