Find here one of the cabinets designed by Pieter De Bruyne. This exclusive item is part of the 1974 collection. De Bruyne's work is very limited made, most pieces are in custody of museums and private collectors, it was a must to find these two beautiful cabinets. De Bruyne is seen as a pioneer of the postmodern movement. His achievements have a thoughtful, inventive, perfectionist and avant-garde view of what needs to be an object of use. Italian design has always been an inspiration for De Bruyne's work. He was an intern of architect, industrial- and furniture designer Gio Ponti, a figurehead of Italian design. Influences of this period you can clearly see in the cabinet 'chantilly' from 1975. Next to italian design, De Bruyne got inspired by old ancient times as well. He traveled several times to Egypt to make studies on a Tout-ank-Amon cabinet, to use in his own designs. Symbolistic elements became more important in his work, without this symbolistic feel, there's no interaction between furniture and user. For more than 10years, De Bruyne made studies and drawings about Egyptian designs. The spatially furniture as this cabinet deserves, did came from the Egyptians as well. A Cabinet doesn't belong against a wall but must be integrated in the open space of an interior. These two items s are a perfect example of what De Bruyne means, it's a wonderfull design that needs the space around it.
