Jean Marais was a popular French cinema actor and director who played over 100 roles in film and on television, and was also known for his many talents as a writer, painter and sculptor. He started experimented with making ceramics in 1973. Two years later he opened his own gallery in Vallauris. Marais was the muse of director Jean Cocteau, who inspired Mairas on his turn with a strong influence of surrealism. His ceramic work often show figurative subjects and black glaze. This vase dates from the mid seventies. Its in an excellent condition and Signed Marais.
