Pierre Caille Two Faced Ceramic 1964

Belgian artist Pierre Caille has played a pioneering role in the development of ceramic sculpture in Belgium. After his studies at the Academy of Tournai in 1936, he was invited by Henri van De Velde to work at the Boch pottery. There he discovered ceramics, which he will continue to practice throughout his career. At the time, he received an order for a monumental work intended for the Belgian pavilion at the New York World Exhibition in 1940. Caille enrolled in the ceramics department at La Cambre , which he would later lead, from 1949 to 1976. Beside sculpturing Pierre Caille practiced the art of creating jewelry, painting and writing. This two faced sculpture dates from 1964 and is finished with a silver colored glaze. The ceramic stands in an excellent condition, signed Pierre Caille at the bottom.
