Decorative honey coloured sideboard from 1958. A custom designed ceramic by French artist Charles Emile Pinson is decorating one of the two sliding doors. It shows a playful scenery with an orchestra playing music underwater surrounded by fish and coral, signed Concert Marin. As a ceramist, painter and etcher, Pinson has a diverse series of artwork. He made artworks for different buildings in France such as the Former chamber of commerce of Caen, the university of Caen and The Church of May-ur-Orne. Even though this ceramic is from a French artist, this sideboard is Belgian made. To my information, it is designed and made in the former Belgian family company Defour. The company was based in Hooglede and runned by the brothers Frans and Herman Defour. They had a progressive style of furniture design which the company received congratulations for from the Department of Economic Affairs in 1955. They often worked together with ceramists and companies such as Perignem. The sideboard stands in a well kept, original condition and has gained a nice patina through the years.
