Umberto Riva (1928-2021)Table lamp for Fontana Arte model 2656
Umberto Riva is the known unknown. As an architect, his oeuvre exists out of a wide range of architectural landmarks, urban housing projects, private and public buildings. Having grown up during an era of architectural and design innovation, Riva found his early inspiration developing a practice that focused on clean lines and materials. From his teacher Carlo Scarpa, he inherited the artistic and artisanal attitude, the taste for open forms and a keen eye for light and shadow. His architectural vision Riva retracted in his artwork, furniture and lightning designs. He collaborated with lightning companies like Bieffeplast, Barovier & Toso and Fontana Arte.
This playful table lamp reflects the designer's architectural eye. It's inventively made with an opaline glass shade resting on a bright blue glass plate that gives a nice blue reflection on the surface the lamp is placed on. The lamp is held together by refined hooks that are attached on the brass feet. A minimalist yet inventive lamp. Stands in a very good condition, no chips or cracks are noticed. Labeled Fontana Arte on the bottom.
