Gilbert Swimberghe 1972 Art work

Gilbert Swimberghe was a Belgian artist known for his abstract work. In his early period, Swimberghe made figurative work, inspired by Belgian painter Constant Permeke. Meeting with artists such as Luc Peire and Victor Servranckx inspired him to experiment with non-figurative work and to look for the simplification of his expressionist work. Ultimately, geometry would become the basis of his work. Swimberghe's use of color is like a guide through his oeuvre. You can distinguish the different periods in his works by the single color that is examined in combination of shades. At the end of the 1970s he left the three-dimensional field behind to gradually pay more attention to the paint as a matrial and the brush stroke.

The search for depth in his paintings results in white-lacquered reliefs in wood and cardboard. They are objects with architectural dimensions that change depending on the position of the viewer. This composition dates from 1972 and is made of lacquered wood. The work is in beautiful condition and signed on the side.
