1950s Florence Knoll sideboard with raffia doors

Decorative sideboard model 116 designed by Florence Knoll in the early fifties for Knoll associates. Florence Knoll studied architecture under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Eliel Saarinen before joining her husband in the company. Florence Knoll took over the company after her husband passed away in 1955. This sideboard is made in a honey colored wood and has 2 sliding doors with cognac leather handles. The doors are finished with raffia, some people refer to the name seagrass but this is a much thicker material than raffia. Inside there are five shelves and a drawer covered with green felt. The sideboard stands in a well kept and clean condition with a wonderful patina. The doors are refinished with raffia, used from an old stock.
