Asteroid Lamp by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova, Italy, 1968

Ettore Sottsass was a pioneering designer, artist and architect known for his bold approach to midcentury design. He opened his own design and architecture studio in 1947 and became closely involved with avant-garde culture in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the 1980s, he founded the influential Memphis Group.

The Asteroid Lamp is a remarkable piece of design. Ettore Sottsass designed the lamp in 1968, it was Produced by Francesconi for Design Centre Italy and distributed by Poltronova. Both compagnies are known for their dedication to experimental and innovative design. The lamp features a U-shaped fluorescent tube housed in a two colored perspex shell, white and blue that creates a futuristic effect. It has a blue lacquered base. Stunning lamp that literally lights up your interior.
